One of the most significant challenges of helping someone on the spectrum is supporting them in the “system”. You know Drivers license or State ID, voter’s registration, passport and the like. Recently our daughter wanted to obtain her Known Traveler ID to travel more fluid through airports. While this sounds like a simple task- it is not. The paperwork alone is a lot for an average person. Having these document ls gathered is a huge challenge and then, there really is not a category for intellectual disabilities so either you have the Abilities to apply or you do not. We knew our daughter could apply and we certainly supported that but we did not know how the interview went and apparently we will not know because she said it went just fine. I will take that!
